With the rising temperatures in March/April, the pike begin to gather in shallow water. The larger specimens, however, remain in deep water even longer. Trolling on the edges of the bank can now hook the big pike. Zander and perch can now also be found in the shallow water zones. The carp are slowly coming to life on the smaller waters – spring is one of the best times to catch them.

Q: Summer

The legendary perch hunts on the large lakes of Müritz and Plauer See are definitely the highlight of the summer. The perch chase the fry to the surface, where the ever-hungry gulls wait for their share. So watch out for flocks of hunting gulls that will lead you safely to the fish. However, large perch in particular remain solitary in shallow water for most of the year, where they feed on crayfish. You also have a good chance of catching a perch in the weed fields or in the harbors.

Q: Autumn

The perch hunts often last until late fall, so keep an eye on the gulls even now. As temperatures fall, the fish begin to seek out deeper waters again. The pike in particular now go into a real feeding frenzy. Towing is now very successful. For carp anglers, the most interesting time of the year is now beginning. Before the resting period in winter, the carp build up a good supply of food. So feeding and lying in wait is the order of the day.

Peace fishing is only worthwhile in the harbors along the large lakes. The biggest pike were and are caught in the coldest season. Depending on the weather, trolling from a boat or with a baitfish under the ice – winter can bring weighty surprises. Zander and perch are now in the deeper areas of the lakes.

Why a fishing vacation with a boat?

When people think of fishing, they often associate it with fishing from the bank. But that’s not the only option: fishing from a boat is a special experience for many, as it allows you to change your location at will. This allows you to “go fishing” and increase your chances of catching fish – after all, your vacation should be crowned with success. Furthermore, the Müritz is difficult to access from the shore in many places – especially if you are not familiar with the area. This means you have a smaller selection of spots when fishing from the bank than if you opt for boat fishing. Besides – if not on a fishing vacation – then when?

What you should also bring with you

If you want to fish professionally, it is an advantage if you bring your own equipment. Depth charts, binoculars and echo sounders (some available on the boats) bring both advanced and beginners closer to their destination. You should also not forget enough bait for your fishing vacation. Fishing licenses

If you want to try fishing for the first time, then the Müritz region is ideal for a fishing vacation due to another point: You do not need your own fishing license in our waters! In the Mecklenburg Lake District, it is possible to acquire a 28-day license – the tourist fishing license. This still requires a
fishing license
for the relevant waters. You can buy these from the local fishermen. In the Zeuthen region you will find
Coca`s fishing center
for this.

If you do not have an inland navigation license, you are not permitted to anchor or moor on the Müritz. In this case, you are only allowed to troll.

Please note that you need a fishing license outside of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern! The tourist fishing license is only available in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
