Lower Havel, Elbe, Müritz-Elde Waterway: Oneway to Müritz

Wide lowlands and wooded elevations characterize the Havel on its way to the Elbe. Thanks to the generous nature parks, the flora and fauna in Havelland can be found in many places just as Fontane described them in his “Wanderungen” and Mr. von Ribbeck could have experienced them with Effi Briest. The Havel needs a lot of space here (it also has the Spree in its luggage), which for the boater is synonymous with a wide, leisurely river course, few locks and many lakes for swimming and anchoring.

On the descent between Magdeburg and Havelberg, you can experience something akin to a speed rush: If the Elbe is flowing towards Hamburg at an average speed of five kilometers per hour and you are traveling at ten kilometers per hour on the houseboat, you are actually traveling at fifteen kilometers per hour. For experienced houseboat skippers, it almost feels like surfing.

Please note that the Schlaborn Bridge is closed. A trip to Rheinsberg is not possible in 2025!
