Things to know for your boat trip
Frequently asked questions and answers.
Do we need a boating license?
No, at KUHNLE-TOURS you can also rent houseboats without a boating license. Before setting off, you will receive comprehensive instruction consisting of 1.5 hours of theoretical and 1.5 hours of practical training. This training covers all the important sailing and safety rules and entitles you to sail on certain waters with the so-called charter license. You will also learn how to steer and moor the boat.
What should you bear in mind for catering on board?
Our boats are equipped with fully equipped kitchens so that you can cater for yourself. There are supermarkets near our stations where you can buy groceries.
What happens in bad weather?
Boats can be operated safely in almost any weather. However, should dangerous weather conditions arise, our team is available to give you tips and support.
What is the range of our journey per day?
This depends on the route and the locks. We recommend that you travel no more than four to six hours per day to allow sufficient time for relaxation and exploration.
Is there wifi on board?
Yes, the boat has WLAN.
Why is an expedition the right thing to do?
- Interdisciplinary learning: on a houseboat, pupils experience science, geography and environmental protection up close – hands-on and with a lasting learning effect.
- Strengthening the class community: Teamwork and shared experiences promote cohesion and the social skills of the pupils.
- Flexible design: Individually plannable programs with a variety of activities, ideally adapted to the teaching objectives and needs of the class.

Tour with schedule
This is what awaits you on your excursion.
Schedule for 5 days:
- After arriving at Hafendorf Müritz, everyone moves into their cabins and receives a 3-hour
boat briefing on navigation and safety. You can end the evening relaxing at our “Pirates Bar”. - Start the second day with a hearty breakfast in the “Captain’s INN” restaurant before the houseboat tour to the historic castle island of Mirow begins. On the trip through the lake landscape, the students learn how to lock the locks and, weather permitting, can go for a swim. On the castle island, they experience history up close – ideal for consolidating the lesson content. In the evening, they have a barbecue together on the boat.
- Day 3 begins actively with a canoe expedition into the idyllic water lily paradise – a real nature experience that brings biology and ecosystems to life. Cooking together in the evening: a
perfect opportunity for teamwork and independence. - On day 4, the boat trip to the Biberhof in Diemitz begins after breakfast. There, the class discovers the planetarium or explores the forest – perfect for delving deeper into geographical and scientific topics. On the return trip to Mirow, the group reflects on their experiences before ending the day with a
dinner on board. - Day 5: After breakfast, the return journey to Rechlin begins. The boat handover goes smoothly and the students travel home with valuable memories, new friendships and a
lot of practical learning experiences. This excursion is guaranteed to be unforgettable!
